Welcome to Seattle

Seattle is a diverse and beautiful city that has a lot to offer in a small package.  It is not a large city, if you want you can easily walk from Pioneer Square to Seattle Center  (the length of the downtown core) in a little over an hour. There are some hills, and they are mostly East and West, the North and South routes are pretty flat, or have gradual hills. Generally, locals prefer hat and hoods to umbrellas, but it does rain much in the summers. Wear comfy shoes, especially if you will be walking around the city. Let's start with how to get around.  A single comprehensive transportation system, is not something you will find here, it is a piecemeal collection of random transportation options. It is worth it to get an ORCA Card and load a little money on it, they are refillable. The bus system is cash only, monorail, Seattle Street Car, Ferry, light rail accept Credit cards. The ORCA card works with everything except the monorail ( ...

SIFF 2011 Movies - the Plan

I used Google Docs to whittle down the movies on my "to watch" list. This post will just summarize the choices that I have made thus far. It is subject to change. If you want to see a specific movie with me, let me know ASAP, so I don't get all crazy and decide to go to a different movie. These are in order by day. (Note, that with my travel schedule and other things, there are gaps.) Saturday 21-May Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff 11:00 AM Harvard Exit Cinematographer Jack Cardiff's nine-decade film career includes landmark work with John Huston, Alfred Hitchcock, and Michael Powell. A better way to Travel

The trip home on Friday went so well, I felt no need to vent, so I am a few days late posting the events of the day. But today I did go to Zumba Class and I remembered why I feel like a square peg in the class made for circles. And it reminds me that somewhere in How to be a Girl 101, I missed the booty shake class and the body roll class. Oh I am made of so much fail in that class. Anywhoo.. back to Friday. Left the jobsite at around 1 pm and went out to lunch on the way to the airport. I was on the 4:30 flight to Houston, then the 7:30 flight (CENTER seat) to Seattle. The 7:30 flight was oversold, and they were offering $$ to give it up, but I was holding on, I was ready to be home. We arrived at the airport about 2;15, too late to get on the 2:30 flight, or so we thought. The 2:30 was delayed till 2:45, so I asked to move up to the earlier flight and so did CF (Cycling Fan), CF and I even were able to sit together and mock the Air Mall for the full 45 minutes. I never realized ...

Travel- it ain't that easy

A few friends have suggested that I write a travel blog of my adventures in Business Travel.. I thought.. it can't be that exciting.. and here I am .. yeah I guess be careful what you wish for because the universe will smack you upside the head and call you Shirley. Today was my first day traveling to Baton Rouge for work. Things so far have not gone to plan. I had to leave home a few hours early, because I had a series of conference calls that would cross over that 2 hour before flight mark, and I knew I had to get through security, without being in the middle of a conference call. So, after call 1 ended, I had 10 mins to get through security and hop on call #2. When I went through the handy new body scanners, the chick at TSA had me drop my ID in the box with my shoes and plastic bags of liquids. After they scanned my hands and my coffee cup for explosives, I was free to head off to call # 2. I had call #2 and then once that was over, I had 15 mins to hop on call #3, I decid...

Fall 09 Schedule

Image
I think I have finally finished my Fall Schedule. This year I added colors for each network. Thankfully, I get the east coast feed for a bunch of channels so, I get those channels 3 hours early- makes it much easier to avoid conflicts. The new shows are bolded. If there is something I HAVE to watch let me know in the comments. I am pretty happy with the schedule.. busy but not too crowded. A good deal of the cable shows will be gone in October and then back for a bit in Dec/Jan- so it looks way more crowded then it really is. Now, I need to have a talk with TIVO and put the shows all in the right order to avoid conflicts.

Movies Movies Movies

I set a goal this year- 365 movies in 365 days... or to average a movie a day .. so far 33 days into the year and I have 40 movies under my belt. I will post my reviews here as I get them cranked out. :) Wish me luck. Here are the first 40... would IMDB links be helpful? LMK 1. Music and Lyrics Cuter then I expected and it moved along nicely. Hugh Grant is really looking old, not really a bad thing. I loved the 80's pop stuff and the Wham! like dance moves. The movie was a neat little journey movie about the lyrics and harmony in our life and how it is better when it all comes together. I think they resolved Alex's (Hugh Grant) angst well, they found a way to give him a voice that seemed very true to the character and he really grew. I think they dropped the ball on Sophie (Drew Barrymore), they gave her an interesting back story and a cause for her shaky character, and it never felt right for the character and was not explored enough to be really something for her to grow ...
